How to tell people they should hire a lawyer to avoid going to court?

Challenge

Lawyers are the people you turn to when you need to go to court. Someone sued you; you want to sue someone; you’re accused of a crime… gruesome, ghastly stuff. The law states that it is mandatory to have a legal representative in court, which means you need a counsellor.

However, this is not the only reason to call a lawyer, according to Ordem dos Advogados, the Portuguese Law Society. Lawyers are experts in law so you should schedule an appointment every time you need to make a decision that may have legal consequences in the future.

This decision could be to sign an employment contract, to create a company with several partners, to get divorced, to rent an apartment, and hundreds more.

Lawyers should be called to avoid the troubles ahead... that might force you to go to court. They will give you qualified legal advice so that you can make your decision with clarity, aware of the risks and benefits.

How could we make people change their minds about something so deeply rooted into their consciousness?

Work

We wondered what was the key moment when people should hit the “pause button” and call a lawyer.

That brief moment that takes place just before the words coming out of your mouth bind you to a legal proposal you’ll be unable to run from.

This was the theme we chose to highlight in our all type campaign.

The sneaky questions.

“DEAL?”

Not without a lawyer.

“YES?”

Not without a lawyer.

“WILL YOU SIGN IT?”

Not without a lawyer.

These questions were aired in print, ATM advertising, posters, social media.

We also used Google Display so that people searching for specific subjects such as “registers”, “divorce”, “open business”, and more, could see our banners warning them to call a lawyer first.
