Challenge

Hotel Açores Atlântico was the biggest and most prestigious hotel on the island of São Miguel in the Azores archipelago. The place where foreign dignitaries, celebrities and politicians stayed overnight. The pride and joy of Ponta Delgada’s inhabitants for years. But eventually it closed its doors due to the economic crisis.

The Bensaude Group, owners of the hotel, dreamed of bringing it back to its former glory, now rebranded with a twist: it became a five-star hotel styled in the tradition of the 20th century European Grand Hotels. The hotel would also house an art exhibition that showcased the maritime legacy of the Bensaude Group and the hotel.

Work

We wondered how the luxury tradition of the European Grand Hotel, the city, and the ocean influenced the new Grand Hotel Açores Atlântico. So we created a logo that mirrored the land and the sea with tiny changes that echoed it’s majestic and seaborn legacy. Elegance and the ships nautical flags and communication codes, where minimalism became the basis for its visual ID and graphic universe.
